In this remarkable pair of concerts held on consecutive days, Steven Isserlis performs all six of Bach’s cello suites, separated by short works by the Hungarian composer, György Kurtág. Taking his cue from Bela Bartók’s Microcosmos and Webern’s miniature forms, Kurtág’s music achieves an immediacy and expressive intensity rare in contemporary music.
