ST CROSS COLLEGE JAZZ CONCERT - Friday 23 October at 7.30pm BST via Zoom

Acclaimed jazz pianist Peter Edwards will play a one-hour concert with a programme that celebrates Black composers and their huge contributions to the history of jazz music. The programme will be split into three parts - Early Jazz, Swing to Bebop and Contemporary Jazz - and will include the music of Scott Joplin, W.C. Handy, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver and Herbie Hancock.

Peter Edwards is a pianist, composer and bandleader whose ‘guileless, soulful music…[is] full of emphatic chording, Latin grooves and romantic, cinematic themes’ (The Guardian). He has released two albums with his acclaimed trio and has worked with esteemed UK artists Mica Paris and Zara McFarlane.

In 2019 he performed Duke Ellington's work for piano and orchestra, New World A Comin', with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Nu Civilisation Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the London Jazz Festival. He also directed and performed Ellington's masterwork The Sacred Concert at the Royal Albert Hall for the 2019 BBC Proms.

If you'd like to attend the free concert, please complete the booking form here by 5pm on Thursday 22 October BST.
