This concert is given to mark the 350th anniversary of the building of the Sheldonian. "Athalia" was chosen as the work to perform, because Handel himself conducted its first performance in the Sheldonian in 1733, and the Sheldonian is quite possibly the only building which witnessed the premiere of a Handel oratorio which is still standing.
