Neil MacGregor OM has been Director of the British Museum since 2002. He has brought the collections to the widest possible public, not least through the hugely popular BBC series and book ‘A History of the World in 100 Objects’. Neil was an undergraduate at New College, Oxford, and began his career as a lawyer in Scotland. He was Director of the National Gallery before taking up his position at the British Museum. He was appointed to the Order of Merit in 2010 by The Queen.
This autumn, BBC Radio 4 and the British Museum will embark on a new partnership to explore the fascinating and complex history of Germany from the origins of the Holy Roman Empire right up to the present day in a 30-part radio series. The British Museum will also present a major exhibition on this theme.
