The Geology of the Cotswolds Field Trip
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of local hero William Smith’s first stratigraphic map, this day school will first visit his birthplace and memorial at Churchill, before continuing to the Cheltenham area to investigate the techniques used to read the geology of this beautiful landscape.
The day will be run by Professor Paul Smith, geologist and Museum director. Some transport will be available from Oxford, and rendezvous points will be given for those travelling by car. The day will involve a few kilometres of walking over easy ground on open hillsides and old quarries.
