Oxford-FAPESP international research collaboration (Sprint 1st Edition)
Outcome of first round of call for proposals
We are delighted to announce the results of our first call for proposals under a new partnership with FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation). Signed in January 2015, Oxford University’s agreement with FAPESP will see us jointly funding collaborative research over the coming five years. The funds will support researchers from Oxford working in partnership with researchers from the state of São Paulo, Brazil, with the aim of encouraging long-lasting academic collaborations going forward.
Three projects will be supported in this first period of funding (2015-2017):
Professor Edward Alexander Anderson, Department of Chemistry at Oxford University, together with Professor Richard Grenyer, Oxford University Centre for the Environment, will be collaborating with Professor André Gustavo Tempone of the Instituto Adolfo Lutz and with Professor João Henrique Ghilardi Lago of the Federal University of São Paulo on a project entitled “Brazilian biodiversity as a source for novel drug scaffolds against neglected protozoan diseases”.
Professor Rene Banares – Alcantara, together with Professor Nick Hankins and Professor David Howey, all at Oxford University’s Department of Engineering Science, will be collaborating with Professor Eduardo Pires, Dr Valéria Del Nery, and Dr Márcia Damianovic, all at University of São Paulo, on a project entitled “Recovery and storage of renewable energy from biorefinery wastewater”.
Professor Andrew Smith, Department of Plant Sciences at Oxford University, will be collaborating with Professor Helenice Mercier, Instituto de Biociências, University of São Paulo, on a project entitled “Improving the efficiency of water- and nitrogen-use by crop plants”.
The next call for proposals will be launched in Spring 2017 and relevant details will be posted nearer the time.
