We are committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 33 per cent by 2020/21 (compared with 2005/06). In recent years we have reduced our carbon emissions per square meter in spite of having more buildings, more people and a growth in energy intensive research activities. But there is always more that can be done. Our annual environmental sustainability review outlines the progress we are making.
It reports on our performance in the following areas of: energy and carbon management; water management; sustainable travel; material resources; sustainable buildings and biodiversity; and education, research and knowledge.
We are a member of a global network of universities and colleges called the International Sustainability Campus Network (ISCN) which promotes environmental sustainability. Members are required to produce an annual Charter Report about their progress, and we incorporate this into our annual environmental sustainability report.
