Matters arising

  1. Registering of .tel domains
This new domain name allows for the storage and management of contact information and keywords directly in the DNS. OUCS have registered a selection of names relevant to the University and have added some data. It was agreed that they will maintain the new domains but that PAD will manage the content.
Action: CE to review existing content

  2. Creation of two new groups to look at web information strategy in UAS
On the 20th April 2009 GPC approved the creation of two new groups. An Oversight group will take a strategic view on web matters, predominantly focussing on UAS, and will be chaired by Ewan McKendrick, Pro VC (Education and ASUC), and the Development group will be a working group reporting to the Overview group, its membership is still under discussion. The implications for the future of the WSG will be reviewed once the two new groups have clear terms of reference.

  3. Pandemic arrangements on web
The University has a Pandemic Planning Team (PPT) and maintains online information about the current pandemic (ox.ac.uk/flu). Access to this section will remain on the homepage for as long as the pandemic is in amber or red alert (determined by the World Health Organisation). The site is maintained by PAD and edited by the Press and Information Office. All members of the Pandemic Support Team will be able to update this information as long as they have internet access.

Main items

  1. Update on responsibility for web content
OUCS have two lists, one holds the contact who requested access through the University firewall and one for “web managers” although there are no criteria to meet to join this list. The original reason for raising this point was an upcoming audit. It was agreed that the sensible course of action was to await its report and respond accordingly.

  2. Use of http://ox.ac.uk
It has been determined that the Groupware Project has no immediate plans to use this and the group agreed to proceed in making a renewed request to use this for www.ox.ac.uk.
Action: PAD to make request via the Director of ICT

  3. Updating Web Accessibility Guidelines
WCAG 2.0 was published in December 2008. It builds upon WCAG 1.0 but is not intended to be stricter or harder to meet, just clearer to understand and test. The University commissioned DMAG to carry out an Accessibility Audit in 2004 and adopted an AA level of compliance. It was agreed that we would continue at this level but acknowledged that the University’s accessibility statement would not be updated to WCAG 2.0 until it has become an accepted and proven standard.
Action: PAD will meet with the Disability Office to discuss further.
