Web Information

The Oxford University website is one of the most popular university websites in the UK, the homepage alone receiving approximately 400,000 hits per week. The top levels aim to provide easy access to the wide variety of information available on the website to the many different audiences using the site.

The content of the home page and the gateway pages directly beneath it are managed by the Public Affairs Directorate. Beneath this structure, the colleges, divisions, faculties and departments are responsible for the organisation and content of their own web pages.

Updates to the Rules for Oxford University Websites are circulated through an email list. All units of the University are required (in part fulfilment of the Freedom of Information Act) to nominate one individual to represent all of their World Wide Web publishing activity, and this individual must be on the list.

It is possible to see who is on the register here https://register.oucs.ox.ac.uk/itss/index and if you have any enquiries about this register please send them to webmaster@oucs.ox.ac.uk.

Creating a Web Managers' Community at Oxford

In MT 2005, an email 'web-managers-discuss' list was set up to foster a sense of community and sharing of knowledge between those involved in Web publishing across Oxford. Within the first month of operation, over 200 Web Managers signed up and began using the service to help each other in their work. To join this optional list please email web-managers-discuss-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk.
