Mozart: String Quartet 'The Hunt'
Brahms: Clarinet Quintet
The fourth of the six quartets dedicated to Haydn, Mozart's Quartet No.17 was nicknamed 'The Hunt' by his contemporaries for its 6/8 rhythm in the first movement.
Brahms had resolved to retire when he heard the clarinettist Richard Mühlfield. The result was his gloriously autumnal Clarinet Quintet, widely accepted to be his finest chamber work.
