The UAS Conference Series 2013/14 Programme

Event 1: Tuesday 1 October 2013, Examination Schools

The conference series starts with a full-day event. The main focus of the day is new staff induction activities, networking opportunities, skills development, and introductions to projects and services. This event will follow a similar format to previous years: there will be five break-out sessions during which delegates can attend a range of workshops and presentations, while the South School will host a range of information stands for delegates to browse during the course of the day. The event will close with a Speakers' Question Time Q&A, followed by a drinks reception starting at 5pm.

Event 2: Tuesday 4 February 2014, Saïd Business School (West Wing)

The second in the conference series is a half-day event, starting with a networking lunch at 12pm, followed by four break-out sessions during which delegates can attend a range of workshops and presentations, and closing at 5pm. There will be posterboard displays for delegates to browse over the course of the afternoon. The main focus of this event is professional and personal development, collaborative working, and mid-year updates on projects and services.

Event 3: Thursday 26 June 2014, Mathematical Institute, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter

The third in the conference series is a half-day event, starting at 12.30pm, followed by three break-out sessions during which delegates can attend a range of workshops and presentations. The event will close with a plenary session, and delegates will then be invited to proceed to the University Staff Garden Party at 4.30pm. There will be posterboard displays for delegates to browse over the course of the afternoon. The main focus of this event is small group working, end-of-year progress reviews, and short updates.

UAS Conference Event 1: about the day

The first event of the series starts at 9am with a welcome by the Vice-Chancellor. The day then consists of five breakout sessions. You have a choice of attending a 60-minute workshop or up to two 25-minute presentations in breakout sessions 1, 2, 4 and 5. Breakout session 3 consists of 25-minute presentations only. Plus:

  • A range of information stands will be available to browse throughout the day.
  • For lunch, a range of sandwiches and snacks will be available to purchase in the North School.
  • There will be a charity cake stall in the North School during the mid-morning break (10:30 to 11:00). For a donation of £1, you can enjoy a slice of homemade cake, with all the profits going to Womankind Worldwide, an international women’s rights charity working to help women transform their lives in Africa, Asia and Latin America (www.womankind.org.uk). Our thanks go to Bobbie O’Neill in the Public Affairs Directorate and her brilliant band of bakers!
  • A bike repair services will be operating throughout the day. Book your bike in for a morning or afternoon service when you register for your sessions. Details on where to leave and collect your bike will be emailed to you in advance of the day. (This service is now fully booked).
  • WIFI access will be available throughout the day in the North School for those who wish to bring their own laptops/tablets.
  • The event will close with a Speakers' Question Time Q&A panel discussion in which you can hear about strategic issues affecting the collegiate University and raise questions about issues affecting UAS and the wider University. The panel will be made up of senior university and college officers and will be chaired by the Deputy Registrar.
