Speakers' Question Time
The conference will close with a Q&A panel discussion in which you can hear about strategic issues affecting the collegiate University and raise questions about issues affecting UAS and the wider University. The panel will be made up of senior university and college officers, and will be chaired by the Secretary of Faculties & Academic Registrar.

The Registrar: Professor Ewan McKendrickThe Registrar is the senior administrator within the University. Appointed by Council, the Registrar is the principal adviser on strategic policy to the Vice-Chancellor and to Council, is secretary to Congregation and Council, and is responsible under the Vice-Chancellor, for leading the management and administration of the University’s affairs. Ewan McKendrick holds law degrees from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Oxford. He took up the Herbert Smith Chair of English Private Law at Oxford in 2000. He served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) from 2006 to 2008 and then Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education, Academic Services and University Collections) until 2010. He took up the appointment of Registrar in January 2011. |

(Chair) Secretary of Faculties & Academic Registrar: Michael SiblyThe Academic Administration Division is headed by the Secretary of Faculties & Academic Registrar. The Division covers most aspects of academic administration, including planning and resources, educational policy, administrative support for the student career from admission to graduation, and centrally managed student services such as counselling, disability support, careers and sport. The AAD also includes the divisional offices, the ASUC Secretariat, and the Continuing Education Secretariat. Michael Sibly joined the University in 1983 and has worked in a variety of posts in central and departmental administration. He took up his current post in January 2006 after working as head of the Planning and Resource Allocation section from 1998 to 2005. |

Head of the Humanities Division: Professor Shearer WestThe Humanities Division brings together the faculties of Classics; English; History; Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics; Medieval and Modern Languages; Music; Oriental Studies; Philosophy; and Theology, and the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art. Shearer West joined the University in August 2011, succeeding Professor Sally Shuttleworth. She was formerly Professor of Art History at the University of Birmingham and, from 2008-11, was seconded to be Director of Research at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), where her role included overseeing the strategic direction of arts and humanities research programmes. |

Chairman of the Conference of Colleges: Tim GardamThe Conference of Colleges is a forum for colleges to deal with matters of shared interest and common purpose, and a voice for college interests within the University community. Tim Gardam was elected Principal of St Anne’s College in March 2004. His previous career was in broadcasting. Starting out as a BBC trainee in 1977, he went on to become editor of Newsnight, Timewatch and Panorama, and Head of Current Affairs Programmes for BBC Radio and Television. He was a senior executive at Channel 5 and at Channel 4, where he was Director of Programmes and Director of Television. |

Senior Project Manager: Mary Ann RobertsonMary Ann Robertson was formerly Divisional Secretary of the MPLS. Over the next four months prior to her retirement, she is supporting the Registrar and other senior officers in managing administrative staffing across the University, with the principal aim of ensuring more effective deployment and management of administrative resources. Mary Ann joined the University in 1991 with the task of supporting the establishment of a Management School (now known as the Saïd Business School). Since then, she has worked in Continuing Education, Educational Studies, English, Philosophy and Classics; and was Secretary of the Social Sciences Division from its inception in 1999/2000 until 2004, when she took on the same role in MPLS. |
