Accessibility

We welcome disabled visitors at the Sheldonian Theatre and we will do our best to help you. Unfortunately some areas of the Theatre (Cupola, Attic area, Cecil Jackson room and basement) are currently inaccessible to wheelchair users or those with significant mobility problems. For further information about disability access, please contact us.

How to access the building

The Sheldonian Theatre is located on a raised area adjacent to the Old Bodleian Library. Guests with mobility needs should use the narrow gateway from Broad Street for level access. Guests with larger wheelchairs or mobility scooters should follow the road around to Catte Street (towards the Radcliffe Camera).  Level access is then available via the Old Bodleian Quadrangle.

If you are attending a University event, disabled visitors should go to Door F of the Theatre.

If you are attending a concert or event, disabled visitors should go to Door E of the Theatre.

If you are visiting the Theatre as a tourist or in any other capacity, disabled visitors should go to Door C of the Theatre.

Disabled car parking

Disabled car parking is available on Broad Street, subject to availability.

Hearing loop system

When used in conjunction with our PA system or an external PA system, guests can use the T-loop setting.

Toilets

An accessible toilet is located to the right of the main entrance. Further toilet facilities for visitors and guests can be found in the basement area.
