Student torch bearer
On July 16 Alex Fraser, a second year student at Queen’s and captain of the University’s Men’s Modern Pentathlon team, is going to be carrying the Olympic torch in Lancing on the South Coast. He is currently working with Lloyds TSB on their sponsorship programme of the Olympic Games.
Alex said, "I was at a swimming club from the age of eight. My secondary school PE teacher had won Bronze in Modern Pentathlon at Sydney. She encouraged me to take up the other four disciplines. With mixed success and a lot of hard work, including breaking my arm in a horse riding accident, I made it onto the GB youth team in 2008. I was student Champion in 2011 and 2nd in 2012, having competed at the U19 Championships in Hungary in 2011. Currently I am a member of the University Cross Country, Fencing and Modern Pentathlon Clubs. I am captain of the latter for the next year.”
