Dan Fox

Profile

Dan Fox studied Geography at Greyfriars College between 2001-2004 followed by a PGCE at St Edmund Hall in 2004-5. He is a member of Team GB’s hockey team at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

I have been training since 2007 with the England and GB hockey teams. I was selected to be part of Team GB for London 2012 at the start of June. I was selected from a full time squad of 27 players. Training takes place six days per week and is based at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.

The team reached successive European Championship semi finals, securing Gold in 2009 and Bronze in 2011; reached the 2010 World Cup semi final; and the 2010 Champions Trophy final. So we have a lot of big game experience.

I played hockey and academy cricket for four years at Oxford. It offered a near-professional approach to sport, which gave me the training and enthusiasm to carry on after university and pursue an international career.

It means a huge amount to have the Olympic Games in London because of the support from friends and family, and also from the public as a whole.

Having never played international sport at a junior level I want to encourage everyone to pursue it, because with dedication you can achieve great things. And at the same time it is socially brilliant, has health benefits, reduces stress and anyone can access sport. This is particularly true at Oxford because of collegiate sport and the excellent facilities.
