Customising the look of this webpage

The following gives can overview of how you can begin to customise the look of this webpage to best suit your preferences.  For a more comprehensive guide to customising the look of webpages please see the BBC’s My Web My Way guide.

Font sizes

You may change the font size of the website text to your preference through your browser:

  • In Internet Explorer, select View, then Text Size, and then your preferred size.
  • In Firefox, select View, then Text Size, and then increase or decrease as required.
  • In Google Chrome, click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar, then select Options and click the Under the Hood tab. Font size and style can be customised in the Web Content section.

Background colour

You may change the background and text colours to your preference through your browser:

  • In Internet Explorer, select Tools, then Internet Options, and then Accessibility. Click in the three boxes under formatting to ignore colours, font styles and font sizes specified on webpages. Click Ok and either leave the tick in the box to use Windows colours, or click to remove the tick and specify your own colours.
  • In Firefox, select Tools, then Options. Click on the Content tab and then click on Colours. Click to remove the tick to allow pages to choose their own colours and then specify text and background colours.
  • To change the background colours when using Google Chrome it is necessary to install a plug in. Click here to find a number of accessibility plug ins.
