General

Nightline

A service run by students for students, providing sympathetic listening for any problem, large or small. You may phone 01865 270270 (reverse charges accepted) or call in at 16 Wellington Square for coffee and a chat. There are always two people in the office, one male and one female, between 8pm and 8am during term and during the weeks just before and after term. Strict confidentiality is assured.

Samaritans

24-hour support for those feeling desperate, despairing or suicidal. Ring 01865 722122 or the national number 08457 909090 (calls charged at local rates). You may also visit at 60 Magdalen Road between 8am and 10pm. There is no need for an appointment and all contact is confidential. If you are more comfortable with email, you can write to jo@samaritans.org and receive a reply from a Samaritans volunteer within 24 hours.

Oxford Student Mental Health Network (OSMHN)

OSMHN is a partnership between local education institutions and health service providers, which focuses on student mental health issues in Oxford.

MIND (The National Association for Mental Health)

MIND is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, providing a wide range of information and support to people with mental health difficulties.

SANE

Call 0845 767 8000 for practical information, crisis care and emotional support to anybody affected by mental health problems. The service is open from 6pm to 11pm every day.

Cruse Oxfordshire

Part of the National Charity, Cruse Bereavement Care. Cruse Oxfordshire volunteers are available to help anyone in Oxfordshire, young or old, to deal with the pain of grief.

Beat

Sex and sexual orientation

Alec Turnbull Clinic (Family Planning Clinic)

The clinic provides services such as contraceptive advice, contraceptive supplies and advice around sensitive issues like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Sexual Health (GUM) Clinic

Located at the Churchill Hospital the clinic offers free information, counselling and testing for HIV & AIDS and all other sexually transmitted infections. Tel: 01865 231231.

Oxford Friend Lesbian and Gay helpline

Call 01865 726893 for free and completely confidential information, support and counselling services for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people.

The UK’s largest provider of relationship counselling and sex therapy. They are committed to helping people understand what’s going on in their relationships and change things for the better.

Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre

A collective of women committed to supporting survivors of sexual abuse, rape, domestic abuse, and harassment. They offer a free and confidential service to women and girls who are dealing with the effects of sexual violence.
