Updating your details in Student Self Service

Please ensure that you update Student Self Service if your personal details change at any time during the year. This includes your contact and address details and the option of having your name excluded from publicly displayed exam results lists. Alternative examination arrangements permissions are also recorded in Student Self Service.

Enrolment certificates and exemption from Council Tax

Student who have completed their University registration are able to print an Enrolment Certificate in Student Self Service confirming their enrolled status at the University of Oxford for the current academic year. This certificate may be used for the purposes of council tax exemption if living in private accommodation, opening a bank account, and, for international students who need to register with the police, as proof of enrolment. Some students also use it when they need to confirm their student status for other purposes e.g. to show a financial sponsor or a landlord when renting private property. 

Student Notebook feedback

If you have picked up your free copy of this year’s Student Notebook please take a minute to give your feedback by completing the online survey and help shape the content in future versions. The Notebook includes essential University information on studying, support, careers advice and exams, as well as 200 pages of lined paper, an academic planner and key contacts. A small number are still available to collect while stocks last from:

  • Careers Service (56 Banbury Road)
  • OUSU (2 Worcester Street);
  • Student Welfare and Support Services (3 Worcester Street);
  • Accommodation Office (Summertown)

Volunteers needed for Oxford Vaccine Group studies

  • MenPF-1. A new vaccine against meningococcal disease: Participants aged 18 to 50 yrs old and in good health are invited to take part in a clinical study of a new vaccine for preventing meningitis. Compensation will be provided for your time, inconvenience and travel over the study period.
  • Evaluating the immune response to two different meningitis vaccines: Healthy volunteers aged 30-70 years are needed for a study of different vaccines designed to offer broader protection against meningitis. The study aims to understand the way vaccines work on the immune system, which could in turn help the development of other vaccines and the prevention of diseases such as meningitis.

Disability Awareness Week starts 12 November (week 6)

Disability Awareness Week is a joint initiative between OUSU and the Disability Advisory Service with a series of events promoting positive attitudes about disability. A range of seminars are being held from 12.30pm–1.30pm in the Caldicott Room of the Student Welfare and Support Services building (3 Worcester Street), including a sandwich lunch:

  • Monday 12 November - The Autism Gift: Anna Remington is the Scott Junior Research Fellow in Autism and Related Disorders at University College. Her work focuses on superior abilities in Autism Spectrum Disorder, specifically with respect to attention and perception within the condition.
  • Tuesday 13 November - How do employers support disabled graduates? (including Q&A panel): Anne Dutton (Careers Service, University of Oxford), Rob Barrett (Access Network, Lloyds Banking Group) and Caroline Moughton (Staff Disability Adviser, University of Oxford)
  • Wednesday 14 November - Hearing but not as you know it...: Screening of short documentary about Oxford student Helen Willis who is totally deaf (since the age of 2) and her experience of student life at Oxford. This will be followed by a discussion with Helen and Disability Advisory Service staff.
  • Thursday 15 November - The Autism Act and related policy. What does it mean for adults on the spectrum?: Marie Tidball, DPhil Candidate in Criminology, Wadham College.  Marie was recently Policy and Legal Officer at Autism West Midlands where she co-ordinated and produced a number of highly regarded consultation responses to national and local government consultations including the Autism Statutory Guidance.
  • Friday 16 November - Mind Your Head Lunchtime Discussion: Designed to get people thinking and talking about mental health and wellbeing, this session will feature students talking about their experience of mental health difficulties and encourage students to look after their mental wellbeing.

Places are limited and must be booked by Tuesday 6 November by emailing disability@admin.ox.ac.uk with any dietary and access requests. The building is fully accessible with automatic doors, lift access and a hearing support system in the Caldicott room.

Pre-Christmas gathering for Commonwealth and international students at Windsor, 18-20 December 2012

Cumberland Lodge has been running a Christmas event for Commonwealth and international students for over 60 years. Students from other countries that are currently in Britain are welcome to have a taste of a typical British Christmas with a personal appearance by Father Christmas almost guaranteed. The registration fee is £65, which includes wine, food, shared accommodation and entrance to Windsor Castle. Visit the Cumberland Lodge website for further details.
