University business cards for students

Official University of Oxford business cards can be ordered by full-time students through the Student Gateway for purposes connected with your studies. Visit the website for more information on ordering, delivery and the different branding options available.

Important information for students due to sit Exams in 2012/13

The Examination & Assessments section of the Student Gateway includes pages on exam entries, regulations, alternative exam arrangements, submission of assessments, research degrees, timetables, results and academic transcripts.

Exam entry dates

Check the Examination Entry Dates and Start Dates spreadsheet and submit your entry forms to your College Office well before the entry dates to avoid paying a late entry fee.

Confirmation of entry

Two weeks after each entry date, check that you have been entered for all assessments correctly through the Academic and Assessment Information page in Student Self Service. Immediately notify any errors to your College and aro@admin.ox.ac.uk. You will be unable to check your assessments if you have not completed your University registration.

Exam entry fees for 2012/13

Students are required to pay the following fees using the University's Online Shop. Details of how to make payments can be found on the Examination Entry page on the Student Gateway. The relevant payment should be made before forms are submitted and the order number written on the form.

  • Late Examination Entry fee - £40
  • Change of Option fee - £40
  • Re-entry to a BPhil, MPhil, MTh, MSc (by coursework) or MSt examination if the student is not receiving any further tuition and therefore not paying any composition fees - £358

Entry forms will not be processed until payment has been received.

Candidates with alternative exam arrangements

The deadline for applying for exam adjustments is the Friday of 4th week of the term before the exam takes place. Therefore, if you have exams in Hilary Term, applications should be in by Friday 02 November.  Timetables are published on the Student Gateway, at the latest, five weeks before the date of the first exam with an individual timetable following after (no later than 2 weeks before the first date of the exam). Please check your individual timetable and if alternative arrangements put in place for you are missing email exam.arrangements@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Permissions for alternative arrangements do not carry over if you change course and will have to be reapplied for. Only permissions that explicitly state that they are ongoing are carried over from one year of a course to the next. If you have been granted a non-ongoing permission and think that you will need the arrangements again, please contact your College.

Unclaimed NUS Cards

Students who have purchased a National Union of Students (NUS) card via the NUS website should collect their card from Oxford University Student Union at 2 Worcester Street.  Alternatively cards can be pidged to College by request at enquiries@ousu.org. 

NB: Students should be aware that OUSU cannot accept responsibility for items sent through the internal mail system.

Visa and immigration advice

Is your visa due to expire soon? Do you need advice about your visa conditions, or the rules for working during or after your studies? The University’s visa advisors can help you extend your visa through the batch scheme (a check and send service) or provide guidance about your visa conditions or other immigration matters. If you are a new student it is important to make sure you are familiar with your visa conditions. Please be aware that if your course status changes during your studies there will be a consequence for your student visa e.g. transfer of course, suspension, withdrawal etc. Visit the Visa and Immigration section of the Student Gateway for more details or email student.immigration@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Invitation to Apply for Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) Visa Endorsement

Under the new Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category for the UKBA points-based system, the University of Oxford may endorse up to ten students who have developed world class innovative ideas or entrepreneurial skills to extend their stay in the UK after graduation to establish one or more businesses in the UK. Endorsed students are able to apply for a visa for one year to develop their business idea. If the University then confirms adequate progress they can apply for one further year, following which to remain in the UK they would need to qualify for the main Entrepreneur route, or enter Tier 2 employment. Additional employment is allowed for up to 20 hours a week to supplement income whilst the business is in development. The applicant’s dependent partner and children can stay in the UK with them.

Applicants must apply through Career Connect (search for vacancy 47367). The endorsement is a competitive process and applicants will be required to show evidence that they have a genuine, credible and innovative business idea. Thouron Award for study at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia

Applications are now being accepted for the Thouron Award for final year students interested in postgraduate study at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia from September 2013. Up to ten awards are available, each with a total value of approx. US$80,000 per year, covering tuition fees and living expenses, including travel in the USA. Applications are due by Thursday 01 November for the 2013 academic year. Further details of the award are available from the Thouron Award website.

Volunteers needed for Michaelmas Term Mood and Judgement Study

Volunteers are needed for a study investigating how a person’s mood can affect their judgments of control. You will be asked to complete some background demographic information, complete a simple memory test, answer a questionnaire about your mood and do a computerised judgement task. The study takes between 30 minutes and 1hr and volunteers are paid £5 per half hour. If you are interested in participating, please fill in the online mood questionnaire. This study has the full approval of the University of Oxford Interdisciplinary Research Committee (MSD/IDREC/C1/2010/116).

Visa and Immigration Workshops: Staying in the UK to work

The University’s Visa and Immigration Advisers will be giving two presentations for international students wishing to remain in the UK to work after they complete their studies. More information is available on the Careers Service website.
