Do I need a visa?
European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals
If you are a national of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you do not need a visa to come to the UK to study. You will just need your EEA national/Swiss passport or ID card to enter the UK. For more information, see the UKCISA website.
The countries of the EEA are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
EEA nationals should apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to obtain any medical treatment necessary during the trip to an EEA country. You can apply for an EHIC online.
Most EEA nationals can work without restriction in the UK, but if you are a national of one of the following countries you may need to register your work: Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia. If you are a national of Bulgaria or Romania you may be subject to the Worker Authorisation Scheme.
For further information see the UK Council for International Student Affairs information for EEA students including the EEA Work Checker. The UK Border Agency website also provides further information on residence permits and working in the UK.
Non European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals
If you are from outside the EEA then you will need to apply for visa to study at Oxford. More information and advice on the process is contained in the Before you arrive section of this website.
