Preparing to leave

This section is aimed at students who are preparing to leave the University.

Finishing computer use at Oxford

The entitlement to your full range of Oxford University Computing Services  facilities continues until the expiry date on your University Card. You can set your OUCS email account to forward your email to a new address for a further two months providing this is carried out before your University Card expires. Access to management facilities for your Oxford Single Sign-On account, such as password renewal, the ability to set or change the forwarding for your University email address, OUCS Help Desk in case of difficulties with account management and OUCS administrative emails, such as warnings of account or password expiry, will continue for six months following your University Card expiry date.

Access your academic information

Student Self Service will be available to you for six months following the completion of your course. Please update your contact details, particularly your future contact email address, before you leave to ensure that you continue to receive important correspondence from the University. Graduate students will be able to access their Graduate Supervision System (GSS) reports and undergraduate students will be able to access their OxCORT tutorial reports (subject to college agreement) for six months following course completion.

Admission to Oxford library services

All graduates of the University of Oxford are entitled to apply for free admission to Oxford library services. Further information is available from the Bodleian Libraries' website.

Continuing relations

The role of the Alumni Office is to establish and enhance a continuing relationship between the University of Oxford and its alumni, keeping you informed and involved.

IT facilities

In order to deliver the best programme possible, we need to know about you.  When you change your post-University contact details in Student Self Service, they will be updated in the University alumni database (DARS) on a regular basis for the first six months after you leave. After that time, you can update your details through Oxford Alumni Online.

Look out for a special edition of ‘e-Pidge’, the monthly ebulletin for alumni, sent to all finalist students at the end of Trinity Term. This bulletin provides an overview of the benefits and opportunities available to you as alumni of Oxford, and includes your Oxford Alumni Card number which replaces your Bod Card number as your unique identifier. Your physical Alumni Card will be sent to you in College in late Trinity Term. Essential information for recent leavers can be found on the Information for finalists page on the Alumni website.

Career planning

The Careers Service can provide you with comprehensive support in your career planning and management. As an Oxford Alumnus you can attend careers events, fairs, workshops and company presentations. Your student account on CareerConnect will switch to an alumni account when your Bod card expires, ensuring you stay up-to-date with job vacancies, events, skills sessions, fairs and resources on job sectors, applications and international opportunities.

A series of sector-specific Professional Networking Events are also offered by the Alumni Office to help connect you with alumni working in your field of interest.

Oxford Careers Network

The Oxford Careers Network (OCN) is a database of former Oxford students who have volunteered to share their experiences of life after Oxford. By becoming part of this network you can help students with their career choices and life beyond their degree. Volunteers represent a broad range of occupations including the legal sector, journalism, development, medicine, media, music and business.

Verifying qualifications

The Degree Conferrals Office will respond to requests for information on educational attainments from employers or prospective employers or from other educational institutions, funding bodies or recognised voluntary organisations. Information may include, for example, confirmation of degree awarded, and dates of attendance, subjects studied.

The Oxford Master of Arts

What to expectIf you have completed a BA or BFA you will be eligible to take an MA in or after the 21st term since you matriculated (i.e. seven years after matriculation). This is not an automatic process and to obtain your MA you must apply to graduate at a degree ceremony (either in person or in absentia). You must have had your BA or BFA conferred in order to take your MA. They can be conferred at the same ceremony provided that sufficient time has elapsed since you matriculated. You should book for a Degree Day through your college in the usual way. You are not at any point eligible to take an MA if your undergraduate degree is an undergraduate Masters degree. Please note the Oxford MA is not an upgrade of your BA and has no subject or class. We do not issue Degree Confirmation letters as proof of your MA, please use your Degree Certificate as evidence of this award.
