Examination entry

Examinations that contain only compulsory core assessment units

Your core assessment units will be automatically attached to your student record when you complete your University registration. You will not have to wait for an entry date and there will be no entry forms for these examinations. Please see the Exam Entry Dates Spreadsheet (see Useful Documents) for a list of these examinations.

Examinations that include core and optional assessment units or optional assessment units only

For examination entry which includes a combination of core and optional assessment units, all core assessment units will be attached to your record and also listed on the examination entry form alongside optional assessment units.

Exam Entry Forms

Examination entry forms will be sent to College Offices approximately 2 weeks before each entry date, to be distributed to students. Entry forms should be submitted by 12 noon on the days stated in the Exam Entry Dates spreadsheet through your college or other society to the Academic Records Office. Please see the Examination Regulations for examinations not listed in the Exam Entry Dates spreadsheet.  If you misplace your form, please contact your College Office to obtain a copy.

Confirmation of entry

Approximately two weeks after each entry date you should check that you have been entered for all assessments correctly through the Academic and Assessment Information page in Student Self Service. PLEASE NOTE: You will be unable to check these unless you have verified your details. For information on how to do this please visit the following page on using Student Self Service. Please notify any errors in your assessments to your college and to aro@admin.ox.ac.uk as soon as possible.

Candidate number

You can check your candidate number via the Academic and Assessment Information page of Student Self Service or by looking on the top of your individual timetable.

Late and incomplete entries

Any entry forms that are incomplete or completed incorrectly will be returned to you and then subject to the late entry fee if not returned by the specified date in the Exam Entry spreadsheet. No entry will be accepted after the deadline stated without payment of the prescribed special fees.

Resits and resubmissions

If you need to resit or resubmit any assessment unit then you must submit an entry form and any relevant fee by the relevant entry dates.

Change of options

In order to change an option, you must apply for permission in writing through your Senior Tutor or other college officer to the Academic Records Office. Please note applications for alterations of options will not be processed until payment has been received. A Change of Options Form is available from your College Office.

  4. Once completed an automatic email will be sent to the Academic Records Office, who will process the change once a change of option form has been received from your College. The ARO will contact you once your entry has been processed, to confirm that the change is now visible in Student Self Service.

Withdrawal from examinations

If you are considering withdrawal from examinations you should speak to your college tutor and/or Senior Tutor, or a member of your college's welfare team, to ensure that withdrawal is the appropriate option. Your Senior Tutor will notify the Academic Records Office and Chair of Examiners. A student may withdraw either before attempting any papers or subject to the College’s approval before taking the last written paper and may apply to re-enter on a later occasion. The regulations do not allow candidates to withdraw after the written part of the examination is complete, ie by the conclusion of the last paper for which a student is entered or by the time a dissertation or other written material is due to be submitted, whichever is the later.

Examination start dates
