9. Trinity
The door to Staircase 9 in the Durham Quadrangle of Trinity College. It is one of the oldest staircases in Trinity, being part of a range constructed in 1417-21 in the time of Durham College. The staircase led to the Durham College Library, which opened off the first-floor landing. When Trinity was founded in 1555, using the Durham College Quadrangle, the Library continued in use and the rooms to the left became the President's Lodgings. These days the Library is known as the Old Library. The stone frame of the door was heavily repaired in the mid-twentieth century as part of the Oxford University Historic Buildings Fund appeal.
