In July 2018, new data privacy rules – the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – came into effect.
In anticipation of the GDPR, preparations have been underway across the University to strengthen the way we protect people’s data and ensure that privacy is central to what we do.
Some of you will have already been involved in this. For others, there are four steps we recommend you take now:
- Take a look at our roadmap to understand the basic rules of good data handling and how to follow them
- See what guidance is available
- Learn how to recognise a data breach and what to do next
- Find out who to ask for advice and support in your part of the University
The GDPR signals the beginning of a new approach to data privacy. Further improvements will be taken forward over the coming months as a second phase of activity gets underway.
