Have you registered your bicycle with the free bike registration facility provided by Security Services? The process has now gone online making it even easier to sign up to – and for Security staff to manage. For details please contact email@example.com.
The system, provided by BikeRegister, is a nationwide cycle security service, which is also used by partner organisations including Thames Valley Police, British Transport Police and Oxford Brookes University.
Users receive tamper-resistant security stickers to attach to their bikes and information is sent to BikeRegister and used to set up an account. The presence of the stickers helps deter would-be thieves, however if the bike is stolen the details are accessible to police forces across the UK.
The system’s new ease of use is encouraging many more students and staff to register their bikes – more than 150 people have done so since it was introduced around two months ago.
The Security Services team hope this will help continue the long-term fall in cycle crime around the University. A weekly average of around 15 bike thefts four years ago has now fallen to two or three reported thefts. This result has been aided by awareness of security issues by the Security Services team and the provision of subsidised D-locks for students and staff.
