Ashmolean launches new podcast series

The Ashmolean Museum has launched a new podcast series titled, Thinking with Things: The Oxford Collection Podcasts to highlight theMuseum’s diverse collections and to illustrate that it houses something for everyone.

In each podcast a prominent Oxford academic selects a museum artefact and reveals its connection with their research.

Gerontologist, Professor Sarah Harper has chosen a mummy of a child to discuss child mortality rates and compare ancient and modern populations, whilst mathematician, Professor Marcus Du Sautoy questions whether the museum’s carved stone balls from the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age, dating between 3200 and 1500 BC, could have been made by ancient mathematicians.

The museum is keen to hear from departments and colleges who think one of their academics would make a great candidate for a future podcast – please send your suggestions to public.engagement@ashmus.ox.ac.uk.

The podcasts can be downloaded for free on iTunes or from www.ashmolean.org/podcasts.
