Research support

This page is focussed on internal services to support Oxford’s researchers.

That support is provided through a distributed partnership of managers and administrators, and specialist academic services.

Department administrators lead the provision of local support services in each academic department. The Divisional Secretaries lead academic-related support in each of the four Academic Divisions. There are, as appropriate, posts established locally to provide the support required, e.g. as Research Facilitators, Program or Project Managers, Grant Support Officers, Project Finance Officers, etc. Local ICT staff are also often heavily involved in supporting research projects.

University-wide, there are specialist units that support Principal Investigators and departmental and divisional-based managers and administrators. These include Research Services, the Finance Division (especially Research Accounts) and Isis Innovation Ltd.

The Academic Services and University Collections (ASUC) group comprises Oxford University Library Services, the IT Directorate (including Oxford University Computing Services, the coordinating Office of the Director of IT and the IT Support Team), the Language Centre, the University Archives and the University’s museums and Botanic Garden.

The Skills Portal for University Researchers provides an overview of the courses provided for researchers.
