A message from the Vice-Chancellor
As one of the world's great universities, Oxford has an impact not only at local and national levels, but also globally. Oxford academics collaborate with partners worldwide to advance knowledge and address challenges of international importance in areas as diverse as medicine, engineering and the environment.
The Oxford Impacts series celebrates the range of impacts the University has on the world of ideas and society, on policy, culture and technology, and on government, business and the economy. All of this is enabled by the world-leading research of Oxford academics.
Academic enterprise is driven above all by curiosity and by wanting to make a difference. Research at Oxford considers some of the most fundamental questions about the world, and addresses many of the major challenges facing modern society, such as climate change and future healthcare. This research attracts significant levels of investment and support both nationally and internationally. In order to tackle these problems most effectively, Oxford academics develop strong partnerships with other universities, businesses, industry, the public sector and the community, often involving collaborators from around the world. These collaborations are often supported by research councils, medical charities, government departments – including the European Commission – as well as UK and overseas industry, cultural agencies and many others.
