Opening of New Buildings
Ashmolean Museum
The Official Opening of the Ashmolean Museum took place on Wednesday 2 December 2009 by Her Majesty The Queen. The event was attended by over 500 people including major donors to the Museum, builders, architects, current and retired staff, and 90 local school children.
The Chancellor hosted the event which took the Queen on a tour of some of the new galleries within the Museum, as well as the Conservation Studio, Education Centre and rooftop restaurant. At the end of her visit she unveiled a plaque to mark her visit and received a posy.
New Biochemistry building
The new building for the Department of Biochemistry was opened on Wednesday 3 December 2008 by Dr John Hood, Vice-Chancellor. Over 60 attendees including University staff and builders were present for the speeches, opening ceremony and canapé reception that followed.
