About

Professor Rayner's research interests are in public health promotion, including food labelling, food marketing, food taxes and the relationship between a healthy diet and sustainable diet.

His group carries out research in several areas, including:

  • diet and nutrition, assessing the environmental determinants of dietary behaviour and modelling and evaluating population-based interventions aimed at promoting healthier eating;
  • obesity, looking at the possible legislative approaches to obesity prevention and examining the role of environmental exposures to explaining obesity rates in children.
  • the health impact of environmentally sustainable diets

He is chair of Sustain, the alliance for better food and farming in the UK, and Chair of its Children's Food Campaign in the UK.  He is a trustee of the UK Health Forum, Chair of the Nutrition Expert Group for the European Heart Network and a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel of the International Obesity Task Force.
