Dr Patrick McSharry
About
Dr McSharry takes a multidisciplinary approach to developing quantitative techniques for data science, decision-making and risk management. His research focuses on big data, forecasting, predictive analytics, machine learning and the analysis of human behaviour. He has substantial experience in constructing quantitative models for forecasting, classification, decision-making, and risk management.
He is currently investigating the quantification and financing of risk associated with natural catastrophes. One of his projects is the Socio-Economic Impact module of the OECD’s Global Earthquake Model, a model which aims to become the independent standard to calculate and communicate earthquake risk worldwide.
He is also working on the use of quantitative models for decision-making and is particularly interested in the communication of forecasts to policy-makers and the advantages of probabilistic forecasts.
