Encaenia will take place on Wednesday 24 June 2020. Ticket registration will open at the end of April 2020 and you are not able to reserve or book tickets before this point. Please check this page for further updates.
Who can apply
You can apply for a ticket to the Encaenia ceremony if you fall within one of the following categories:
- You are a member of Congregation
- You are a member of Convocation
- You are a current member of staff
- You are a current student
- You are an Academic Visitor
Convocation members (alumni and retired members of Congregation) must apply by emailing email@example.com. All other members can apply online.
A limited number of tickets will be available*, which will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Your ticket will be mailed to you a week before the event. Tickets to the ceremony are not available to members of the public.
*NB: The majority of tickets will be reserved for Congregation and Convocation members.
If you are a Head of House, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Head of Division, Head of a Museum or Library, Proctor or Assessor, the Public Orator, the Registrar, the outgoing President of the OU Student Union or a President of the JCR & MCR of the colleges of the Proctors and the Assessor (for 2020/21) then you do not need to apply online for a ticket, as you will receive an invitation from the Events Office.
Members of Congregation, Convocation and Academic Visitors may apply to bring one guest each. Unfortunately due to capacity we are not able to offer staff and students guest tickets.
Encaenia Garden Party
Please note that registering for a ceremony ticket does not entitle you to attend the Encaenia Garden Party. Electronic invitations to the Garden Party will be sent to all current members of Congregation by the University Events Office in May 2020. On the invite, there will be a link to register your attendance. If you have not received your invitation or became a member of Congregation after this time, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Actively serving retired members of faculty and staff within Congregation are also welcome to attend, as are over 75s who were members of Congregation and who take a deep and active interest in Oxford’s work and success. Please email email@example.com if you would like to attend.
The other categories listed above are not eligible to attend the garden party.
