What was the famous castle associated with King Arthur?

Who was Lyra’s friend who disappeared in the first book of the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy?

What colour is Superman’s cape?

These are the kinds of questions teams of 11 and 12 year olds have been trying to answer as part of the World Final of the Kids’ Lit Quiz.

Teams of avid readers from New Zealand, China, South Africa and the UK have been in Oxford, answering questions on a variety of literature and taking a look round the University and city.

The national and regional winners stayed at Keble College, spending a few days in Oxford before the final at the Oxford Playhouse on Thursday.

The 54 pupils, teachers and librarians visited Christ Church college where they were given a tour of the grounds before having high tea with the Childrens’ Laureate, poet Michael Rosen.

The Kids’ Lit Quiz aims to motivate children and young people to read for pleasure and develop the habit of sustained reading by getting them to take part in reading challenges. This year’s winners are the Arnold House School team, from London.
