Next steps after A-level results
14 Aug 08
With A-level results out today, many students will be celebrating excellent results and looking forward to further studies.
If you have met a conditional offer from Oxford, congratulations! Your place is assured. You will soon be able to see confirmation of your place on UCAS Track. If you received an open offer and have met the conditions of the offer, you will soon be informed which college is confirming your place. This process can take some time, so please do be patient. To allow us to focus on communicating with all our new students, and with UCAS, we would be grateful if you do not phone your college or the University at this busy time.
If you have not met all the conditions of your offer (for example if you have not achieved the required grades) your college will make a final decision regarding your offer and applicants should contact their college if they require any further information.
Students who do not have an offer from Oxford University this year, please note that the University does not participate in Clearing. There are no further places available for any courses starting this year. We routinely make more offers than there are places available, to ensure that all places are filled. Further information about Clearing and places available at other institutions can be found on the UCAS website. If you have achieved at least AAA at A-level, or other equivalent academic qualifications, you may wish to apply to Oxford University for entry in 2009. Further information about how to apply can be found on the University's admissions webpages. However, please remember that even excellent results will not guarantee you a place. If you are holding an offer from another university, you may wish to focus on your studies there.
Mike Nicholson, Director of Admissions, said: ‘Congratulations to all the students who have worked hard to achieve the results they've received today. Those students who have been successful in their applications to Oxford have done exceptionally well, not just in their A-level results, but also by their outstanding performance in our rigorous selection procedure. Most of the students who were not successful in their applications have also achieved excellent A-level results today, and I have no doubt that they will be successful in their studies at other universities'.
