Oxford has been placed first in The Times Good University Guide rankings for the seventh consecutive year, increasing its lead at the top of the table.

This is the third league table this year to give Oxford University the top spot. Oxford has already been named the best UK university in the Independent’s Complete University Guide and The Guardian’s 2009 University Guide.

The Times Good University Guide uses eight criteria to rank universities, including research quality, spending on services and facilities, and graduate prospects. Oxford received the best score for three out of the eight overall criteria and tops five subject tables. This is the first year student satisfaction figures have been used to calculate the subject rankings.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Dr John Hood, said: ‘For Oxford to have retained top position in The Times Good University Guide is a testament to the hard work and intellectual ability of our scholars, students and support staff. That Oxford has been recognised as the top higher education institution in the UK in all the league tables so far this year is particularly gratifying.’
