Professor Sir Andrew McMichael, knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2008

Three Oxford academics have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Professor Andrew McMichael, Professor of Molecular Medicine has been knighted. The Director of the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine and Fellow of Corpus Christi College has been honoured for services to medical science.

Professor Paul Collier, Professor of Economics, Director of the Centre for the Study of African Economies, and Fellow of St Antony's College has been made a CBE for services to scholarship and development.

Professor Paul Harvey, Head of the Department of Zoology has been made a CBE. The Professor of Zoology and Fellow of Jesus College received the honour for services to science.

In addition, Andrew Lilley, News International Visiting Professor of Broadcast Media 2007-2008 and Chief Creative Officer of Magic Lantern Productions, has been awarded an OBE for services to media and the creative industries.

Hugo Brunner, the University's Deputy High Steward, an Honorary Fellow of Trinity College and Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
