Aerospace, St Paul's Cathedral and the Millenium Bridge were captured in the winning entry of a photography competition held as part of Oxford's Centenary of Engineering Science.

Lord Browne of Madingley, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, was among the judges for the competition and awarded the prizes at a ceremony on 15 May. Later Lord Browne delivered a lecture entitled 'On being an engineer' in which he called for more engineers to get involved in public life.

Frank Payne took first prize of £250 in the competition titled 'Engineering Science: capture the essence of engineering in an image' for his startling composition bringing landmarks of London past and present together with a modern jet airliner. Heather Burrage (Hoover Dam) and Alice Thurston (engine) claimed joint second place and £125 each.
