Mike Nicholson, Director of Undergraduate Admissions, has resumed his blogging activity during the interview period at Oxford University. He will be observing students being interviewed and write about the process in a regular blog, called Oxblogster, over the next two weeks.

During this time, around 10,000 students will be coming to Oxford to be interviewed for 3,200 places of undergraduate study. Interviews are conducted by subject tutors at the Colleges, who cooperate to ensure that the most able students with the greatest potential get a place.

Last year, Mike Nicholson observed interviews for candidates applying for Physics, Computer Science, Law, Modern Languages and English.

‘The blog was very well received, and many who wrote in asked if I could write about other subjects as well. This year, I’m planning to visit more subjects in more areas to give people a real insider's view of the process’, Mike Nicholson said.

‘Since last year, we have added to the information which is now available for those wanting to know about applying to Oxford. We have a podcast series, called PodOxford, which covers all sorts of areas relating to undergraduate admissions. Of particular interest may be discussions about the interviews for Medicine, Law, Biological Sciences and History, which I conducted with tutors.

'In addition, our student union OUSU has put together a rich website which includes all sorts of material about admissions from the perspective of current students, including also case-studies on interviews written by some of Oxford's current undergraduates.

'‘I hope some of this will help current and future candidates to prepare for their interviews, and perhaps even make the process enjoyable.’
