Oxford climbs to number two in world university rankings

Oxford has risen to joint second place in the Times Higher Education Supplement’s World University Rankings 2007. This brings Oxford up from third place last year, level with Cambridge and Yale, and closing in on Harvard, ranked number one.
The other UK institutions in the top 10 are Imperial College London,
which has climbed from 9th to 5th place, and University College London,
which has risen to 9th place.
The THES-QS world rankings rate
200 institutions according to peer review, recruiter review, faculty
score, student score, citations per faculty, international faculty and
international student score.
Oxford scores as number three in the world for life sciences and biomedicine; eighth in the world for natural sciences; twelfth best in the world for technology; sixth best for the social sciences and third best in the world for humanities.
The Vice-Chancellor, Dr John Hood, said: ‘Oxford has risen again in the THES rankings as the result of the exceptional achievements of my colleagues and of our students. Their dedication and commitment will ensure the University continues to go from strength to strength.'
