Sir John Krebs appointed to House of Lords

Professor Sir John Krebs Kt, MA, DPhil, FRS, FMedSci, Hon DSc, Principal of Jesus College, has been appointed to the House of Lords.
Sir John is one of six new non-party-political peers announced today.
Sir John is an international expert in behavioural ecology and former Chairman of the Food Standards Agency.
Between 1988 and 2005 he was a Royal Society Research Professor at Oxford University. From 1994 to 1999 he was Chief Executive of the Natural Environment Research Council and between 2000 and 2005 was Chairman of the UK Food Standards Agency. He became Principal of Jesus College in 2005. He is currently chairing an enquiry into the ethics of public health for the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. In 2007 he will become Chairman of the National Network of Science Learning Centres.
He was knighted in 1999 for services to Behavioural Ecology.
Sir John will join several other current members of the collegiate University in the House of Lords: Susan Greenfield (Baroness Greenfield of Ot Moor), Bob May (Lord May of Oxford), Robin Butler (Lord Butler of Brockwell) and the Chancellor Chris Patten (Lord Patten of Barnes). Around 150 members of the House of Lords have links to Oxford University through being alumni or former college or University staff.
