The Last Two Strides from Ruskin Students

The Last Two Strides is the penultimate exhibition of work by final year undergraduates at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art currently being displayed at 91 High Street Oxford, next to the Old Bank Hotel. The 2006 Ruskin degree show was described as 'one of the best' by the Independent newspaper. This year the students hope to continue that tradition.

Sixteen artists are displaying 20 works as a year group rather than around any particular themes or techniques. The artists themselves are excited by the fact that they have worked together developing ideas for nearly three years. This is a chance to show their varying interests in a single show.

There is a wide range of work displayed, both abstract and figurative, including oil paintings on canvas, charcoal works on paper, film installations and sculpture. Visitors will benefit from keeping their eyes on the floors as well as the walls, and should not neglect to look in the toilet where they will find real cutting-edge art.

The exhibition is being supported in the opening show for the Old Bank Hotel, which hopes to use 91 High Street to display the work of new artists on an ongoing basis. The show will run from Friday 9 to Monday 12 February from 12-6pm daily. Many of the pieces are on sale.

The final stride for the Ruskin students will be their degree show in June this year, entitled Ruskin Show 07: Action in Air and Landing.
