Oxford to host five Jubilee Scholars
Five outstanding Indian postgraduate students will be arriving in Oxford soon having won prestigious Jubilee Scholarships after confirming their offers at Oxford. Three will be undertaking management degrees at Oxford’s Saïd Business School and two will be undertaking an MSc in Clinical Embryology at the University’s Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The Jubilee Scholarships programme was launched in early March this year to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics 2012. A British Council and UK Government funded scholarship programme, it offers financial support to 60 Indian students to undertake a Masters in Management, Science and Technology or Manufacturing at UK institutions. The aim is to encourage applications from deserving students who would not normally have the opportunity to study overseas.
Overall, 60 Indian scholars have been selected for the prestigious Jubilee Scholarships 2012, a programme made available by the British Council and the UK Government for young Indians to pursue a one year Masters programme in Management, Manufacturing, Science and Technology in a recognised UK institution, followed by a short term internship programme in the UK.
The winners were awarded through an intensive selection process with the help of panel of experts from academia and industry. The scholars were judged on the basis of their academic merit, professional ambitions and their creative and leadership potential.
Rob Lynes, the British Council’s Director in India, said: “We’re delighted that we’re able to offer this opportunity for sixty Indian scholars to study in the UK. A scholarship is a fitting way to mark the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee; it is a new opportunity for the students and for new links to be created and fostered between our two countries.”
Peter Tufano, Peter Moores Dean of Oxford’s Saïd Business School said: “Given the ever growing importance of India to global business and the longstanding contribution of Indian students to Oxford, the Business School is thrilled that the Jubilee Scholarship programme will enable some of India's finest students to join our community this coming year.”
