Gazette advertisements: online submission & payment by credit card or debit card
If you have advertised with the Gazette before, and paid by credit card or debit card, you will notice some differences in this site. Previous users can, however, continue to use their already registered password.
We recommend that you look through the following guidance before continuing with the placement of your advertisement.
The cost of advertising depends on three factors:
- Whether you are an 'internal' or an 'external' advertiser (the cost being slightly less for 'internal' advertisers);
- The number of insertions of the advertisement—a discount of 25% is given for runs of four or more insertions;
- The length of the advertisement. We have two sizes: (i) up to 70 words, and (ii) 71–150 words. Prices for the 71–150 word range are double the cost of the 'up to 70 words' range.
The effect of these factors is shown in the following table. The prices given are for an advertisement of up to 70 words:
| Number of insertions | Price for internal advertisers | Price for external advertisers |
| 1 | £22.50 | £27.50 |
| 2 | £45 | £55 |
| 3 | £67.50 | £82.50 |
| 4 | £67.50 | £82.50 |
| 5 | £84.38 | £103.13 |
| 6 | £101.25 | £123.75 |
The prices given for 4, 5, and 6 insertions are at the discounted rate. The table is not meant to imply that 6 is the maximum number of insertions—you can of course arrange a longer run if you wish to do so. In each case, the cost of an advertisement in the range 71–150 words is double the price shown.
Are you an 'internal' or an 'external' advertiser?
The first screen gives initially two choices, for 'internal' and 'external' advertisers, and then, within each of these, a choice between 'up to three insertions' and 'four or more insertions'.
'Internal' advertisers are principally current full-time students of the University, and employees of the University, or any of its colleges, or of the OUP. If you are not in one of these categories, you count as 'external'. We regret that graduates of the University, who have no continuing involvement with it as a student or a member of staff, count as 'external'.
If you choose the 'internal' option, you will normally be required to enter a University Card number, or an OUP staff card number.
If you are uncertain about which category you fall into, or have any other questions, please contact us.
How many insertions of your advertisement do you need?
As explained above, a discount of 25% is given for a run of four or more insertions of the same advertisement.
In 2011–12, the Gazette is published weekly, and issues which contain classified advertisements will be as follows: 29 September 2011 to 8 December 2011 inclusive (11 issues); 12 January 2012 to 15 March 2012 inclusive (10 issues); 19 April 2012 to 5 July 2012 inclusive and 19 July 2012 (13 issues).
A full list of publication dates is available here.
If you wish you may specify your preferred date(s) of publication—see 'Entering the text of your advertisement' below.
Click on your choice of up to three insertions, or four or more insertions.
How long is your advertisement?
The screen which follows contains two panels, for advertisements of up to 70 words, and of 71 to 150 words. In the appropriate panel, click in the 'Qty' box and enter the number of insertions required, then click on 'Add to Basket'.
Entering the text of your advertisement
The screen which follows gives you an opportunity to specify the date or dates on which your advertisement will be published. It is not necessary to use this—if you leave it blank we will place your advertisement (or begin its run, if you have chosen multiple insertions) in the next available issue.
You may find it useful to compose your advertisement separately, for example in Word, and then paste the text into the box provided. It is also advisable to keep a copy of your text. When composing the advertisement, please do not use formatting such as bold or italic. What is required is plain text only: the Gazette does not format its classified advertisements.
When you have entered your text, indicated your preferred date(s) of publication, if required, and entered your University Card or OUP staff card number (if you are an internal advertiser), click 'Next'. If you make a mistake, correct it: do not click 'Cancel'.
The steps which follow this point, to complete the payment for your advertisement, should be straightforward. Note that, if you are a new user, when you register the system will ask for a delivery address: this is a default requirement of the software used, and has no significance. Set your delivery address to be the same as your billing address.
Thank you for advertising with the Gazette. If you encounter any difficulties in the placement of your advertisement, please contact us.
