Appointment of additional Pro-Proctors
The Proctors have each appointed an additional deputy, to assist with their ceremonial duties this year:
Senior Pro-Proctor: The Revd Peter John Mackenzie Southwell, MA Oxf, Queen's
Junior Pro-Proctor: The Revd Andrew Robert Francis Xavier Teal, BA PhD Birm, MA PGC Oxf, PGCE Oxf Brookes, Fellow of Pembroke
Mr Southwell and Dr Teal were admitted to office by the Vice-Chancellor on 29 May.
Parallel Universe poetry competition
Following the great success of Parallel Universe in 2010, the Radcliffe Science Library, in association with the Museum for the History of Science, is happy to announce the second Parallel Universe poetry competition. Taking Science and Medicine as its theme, the competition is open to all members of Oxford University – students, staff and alumni – and will be open for submissions 22 April–13 September. Wood Professorship of Forest Science
John MacKay, BSc MSc Laval, PhD North Carolina State, Professor of Forest Sciences, Department of Wood and Forest Sciences, Université Laval, Québec, has been appointed to the Wood Professorship of Forest Science in the Department of Plant Sciences with effect from 1 October 2013.
Professor MacKay will be a fellow of Linacre.
Medical Sciences
University Lecturer
Muhammad Kassim Javaid, BMedSci MB BS PhD Lond, MRCP, Senior Research Fellow, Somerville, and University Lecturer in Metabolic Bone Disease, has been reappointed until the retiring age with effect from 1 April 2013.
Visiting Professorships
Social Sciences
The Social Sciences Division has, on the recommendation of the Faculty of Law, conferred the title of Visiting Professor on Justice J D Heydon, AC, BCL MA Oxf, BA Sydney, Rhodes Scholar for New South Wales, 1964, and Vinerian Scholar, 1967. From 1 October 2013 to 30 September 2016.
