Invitation from Bodleian Libraries
Consultation on Strategic Plan (2013–17)
Bodleian Libraries are holding a number of meetings to consult with members of Congregation, students and other readers on its proposed Strategic Plan for 2013–17. The Strategic Plan, being developed in line with the University's strategic plan, is currently in draft format.
Details of event times and locations are below. Please note that the meeting on 24 October is intended principally as consultation with members of Congregation, while the 29 October meeting is intended for students and will be coordinated by OUSU. Please visit www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/strategicplanning2012 to access the current strategic plan and the proposed draft plan. For any queries, please email communications@bodleian.ox.ac.uk.

Classified advertising in the Gazette
The cost for individuals (whether members of the University or not) to place a classified advertisement in the Gazette has decreased to £20 per placement for publication in both the online and print versions; the cost for commercial advertisements has increased to £30 per placement online and in print, but decreased to £20 for online advertisements only. We also now offer the opportunity for advertisers to include a picture or logo with their advertisement in the online Gazette (this service is not available in the print version) upon payment of an additional £10 per insertion. Discounts are available to both commercial advertisers and individuals for four or more placements of the same advertisement when booked in advance.

Appointments
High Steward
Under the provisions of Stat IX, Sect 6, cl (1), the Chancellor has appointed the Rt Hon Lord Mance, PC, MA Oxf, Honorary Fellow of University College, as High Steward of the University with effect from 1 October on the retirement from the office of High Steward of the Rt Hon Lord Brown of Eaton-under-Heywood, PC, BA Oxf, Honorary Fellow of Worcester.

Professor D Gollin, BA Harvard, MA Yale, PhD Minnesota, Fellow of St Antony’s College, University Lecturer in Development Economics. Conferment of title of Professor. From 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2017.
Visiting Professorships
Medical Sciences
The Medical Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor of Chemical Pathology on Professor D Lo, BM BCh, MA, DM, DPhil, FRCP (Lond and Edin), FRCPath, FRS, for a period of three years from 26 September 2012.
Recognition of Distinction

C Day-Lewis in Oxford
30 Oct, 2–7 pm: at the Moser Theatre, Wadham, and Divinity School. To celebrate the gift of the Day-Lewis papers to the Bodleian Libraries. Lectures by Professor Albert Gelpi and Mr Bernard O’Donoghue, poetry readings and recordings by Gabriel Woolf and Jill Balcon, and a panel discussion with Lord Gowrie, Tamasin Day-Lewis, Professor Douglas Dunn and Dr Chris Fletcher.
Rediscovering Rycote
31 Oct, 9.30 am–6.30 pm: in the Auditorium, St John’s. The project aims to bring together the primary sources within the Bodleian to explore the history of Rycote Park through one online resource.
Miniature Theatre Performance
26 Oct, 6 pm: at Convocation House. Peter Baldwin, actor and proprietor of Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop in Covent Garden, and colleague Mary Pegler will perform a new adaptation of Dickens’s Great Expectations.
St Anne's
Piano recital
John Paul Ekins will perform the following pieces at 6 pm on 18 October in the Mary Ogilvie Lecture Theatre, St Anne's: W A Mozart's Adagio in B Minor, KV 540; Schubert's Vier Impromptus, D899/1 & 4; Schumann's Études Symphoniques, Op 13. Free admission; refreshments will be served following the recital.
