CONGREGATION 9 February 2 p.m.

¶ Members of Congregation are reminded that any two members may, not later than noon on Monday, 1 February, give notice in writing to the Registrar that they intend to oppose or amend any of the resolutions below (see the note on the conduct of business in Congregation below). If no such notice has been given, and unless Council has declared otherwise or the meeting has been adjourned, each resolution shall be carried and the meeting may be cancelled.

Voting on Resolutions approving the conferment of Honorary Degrees

(1) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Civil Law, honoris causa, upon STEPHEN GERALD BREYER, LL.B Harvard, BA Oxf, AB Stanford, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Honorary Fellow of Magdalen College, be approved.

(2) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Civil Law, honoris causa, upon DAVID JOHN SAINSBURY, Lord Sainsbury of Turville, BA Camb, MBA Columbia, HON. FRS, former Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department of Trade and Industry (Minister for Science and Innovation), Honorary Fellow of Nuffield College, be approved.

(3) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon DAME EILEEN ATKINS, DBE, Actor, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, be approved.

(4) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon GEOFFREY HILL, MA Camb, MA Oxf, FRSL, FAAAS, Poet and Critic, University Professor Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Literature and Religion, Boston University, Massachusetts, former Professor of English Literature, University of Leeds, Honorary Fellow of Keble College, be approved.

(5) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon SIR IAN KERSHAW, BA Liv, D.PHIL Oxf, FBA, FRHS, Historian, Professor Emeritus of Modern History, University of Sheffield, Fellow, Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, Honorary Fellow of Merton College, be approved.

(6) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon ARTHUR GEORGE WEIDENFELD, Lord Weidenfeld of Chelsea, Publisher, Honorary Fellow of St Anne's College and St Peter's College, be approved.

(7) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, upon BRIGITTE A. ASKONAS, B.SC M.SC McGill, PH.D Camb, FRS, Immunologist, Visiting Professor, Leukocyte Biology Section, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, former Head of Division of Immunology, National Institute for Medical Research, London, Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences, be approved.

(8) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, upon ROALD HOFFMANN, BA Columbia College, MA PH.D Harvard, FAAAS, FAPS, FNAS, Frank H.T. Rhodes Professor Emeritus of Humane Letters, Cornell University, Foreign Member of the Royal Society, be approved.

¶ If the resolutions are approved, the honorary degrees will be conferred at the Encaenia on 23 June 2010.
