Lady Margaret HallCelebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Anton ChekhovDIANA QUICK and MICHAEL PENNINGTON will take part in a reading of I take your hand in mine..., by Carol Rocamora, based on Chekhov's love letters to the actress Olga Knipper, at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 June, in the Simpkins Lee Theatre, Lady Margaret Hall. Queen's CollegeMusic for a summer's eveningAt 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, 12 June, the Choir of Queen's College will present 'Music for a summer's evening', including works by Eric Whitacre and James Macmillan, and the world premiere of Phillip Cooke's Adlestrop. Tickets cost £12 (concessions £9, students £5), and include two glasses of wine. St John's CollegePerformance by the London Bulgarian ChoirTHE LONDON BULGARIAN CHOIR (dir. Dessislava Stefanova) will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, 5 June, in the Auditorium, St John's College (doors open at 6.15 p.m.). APPOINTMENTSReconferments of the Title of Visiting ProfessorOn the recommendation of the Saïd Business School, the Social Sciences Board has reconferred the title of Visiting Professor in Accounting on PROFESSOR D.C. COOPER, B.SC LSE, PH.D Manc, from 24 April 2010 until 23 April 2012. The Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Board has reconferred the title of Visiting Professor in Physics on PROFESSOR STEVEN J. ROSE, MA D.PHIL Oxf, currently Head of the Plasma Physics Group at Imperial College London, for five years from 13 June 2010. Recognition of DistinctionOn behalf of the Recognition of Distinction Committee, the Vice-Chancellor has conferred the title of Professor of the Sociology of Education on J. OZGA, MA M.ED Aberd, PH.D Open, Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Education and Fellow of Green Templeton College, with effect from 1 October 2010.
