COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITYChanges in RegulationsCouncil has made the following changes in regulations, to come into effect on 31 July. Income grants from the College Contributions FundThe following amounts shall be paid as income grants to the college named in each case under the provisions of section 6 of Statute XV (approved with effect from 8 April 2009, Gazette, p. 932, 23 April 2009):
[This regulation authorises the income grants which Council, on the recommendation of the College Contributions Committee, has decided to make out of the accumulated balance of the College Contributions Fund. The sums listed are maxima; the payment of the grant, and the precise sum payable, in each subsequent year are dependent on the success with which each college has met certain conditions laid down by Council on the recommendation of the College Contributions Committee.]
GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE OF COUNCILChanges in RegulationsThe General Purposes Committee of Council has made the following changes in regulations, to come into effect on 31 July. His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Programme for Islamic Art and ArchitectureIn Part 2 of Council Regulations 25 of 2002 concerning trusts (Statutes, 2000, p. 580, as redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, Gazette, Vol. 132, p. 1461), insert new § 3 as follows and renumber existing §§ 3–113 as §§ 4–114: '§ 3. His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Programme for Islamic Art and Architecture1. The benefaction from the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development which comprises £1,164,500, together with any further donations for this purpose, shall create a new and permanent programme for Islamic Art and Architecture, under the aegis of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, to be known as the 'His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Programme for Islamic Art and Architecture Fund'. 2. The University shall retain all of the benefaction as permanent endowment and shall apply the net income of the fund towards the support of this Programme. 3. The His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Programme for Islamic Art and Architecture shall promote research and scholarship in Islamic Art and Architecture, and exchange between the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies. 4. The application of the income from the administration of the Fund held on behalf of the Faculty of Oriental Studies shall be the responsibility of a Board of Management comprising: (1) the Chair of the Board of the Faculty of Oriental Studies or his or her representative; (2) the Director of the Khalili Research Centre for the Art and Material Culture of the Middle East of the Faculty of Oriental Studies; (3) the Ieoh Ming Pei Professor in Islamic Art and Architecture; (4), (5) two members appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Oriental Studies; (6) one member appointed by the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies. 5. The Board of Management of the His Highness Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Programme for Islamic Art and Architecture Fund will report annually to the Faculty of Oriental Studies and to the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies on the Programme and its activities. 6. Regulations 4 and 5 may be amended by Council.' [These changes, made on the recommendation of the Humanities Divisional Board, establish the His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Programme for Islamic Art and Architecture, under the aegis of the Faculty of Oriental Studies.]
