His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Professorship in Contemporary Islamic StudiesApplications are invited for the above post, tenable from the earliest possible date that may be arranged. This new professorship has been created by a generous donation from the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The post will enhance provision in the study of modern Islamic thought at Oxford, and consolidate the study of Islam in the contemporary Middle East and Europe as an integral part of the teaching and research in the Faculty of Oriental Studies. A professorial fellowship at St Antony's College is attached to the chair, and the incumbent will also work with both the Middle East Centre and the European Studies Centre at St Antony's to promote research and scholarship on contemporary Islam in the Middle East and Europe. The professor will be seconded to the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies in Doha for eight weeks in their autumn semester for a period of ten years.
