GENERAL NOTICESMusical eventsSt John's College: Kendrew Chamber Music SeriesThe following recitals will be given at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Auditorium, St John's College. Admission is free, by programme, which may be obtained from the Porters' Lodge ten days before each recital. 21 Jan.: THE GUARNERI TRIO PRAGUE performs Suk, Elegie; Smetana, Piano trio in G minor; and Dvorák, Piano trio in E minor, 'Dumky'. 11 Mar.: COLIN CARR (cello) and THOMAS SAUER (piano) perform Mendelssohn, Sonata in B flat major, op. 45, and Variations Concertantes, op. 17; Schumann, 3 Fantasiestücke, op. 73, and Adagio and Allegro, op. 70; and Brahms, Sonata no. 1 in E minor, op. 38. 20 May: THE BRENTANO QUARTET performs Monteverdi, Madrigals, transcribed by Mark Steinberg; Lee Hyla, Howl; and Beethoven, Quartet in C major, op. 59, no. 3. Wolfson College: violin and piano recitalSULKI YU (violin) and OMRI EPSTEIN (piano) perform the following at 5 p.m. on Sunday, 7 December, in Wolfson College: Debussy, Sonata for violin and piano; Ysaye, Sonata for solo violin, op. 27, no. 1; and Strauss, Sonata for violin and piano in E flat major. Admission costs £5 (concessions £3); proceeds are in aid of the African Medical and Research Foundation.
APPOINTMENTReconferment of the Title of Visiting ProfessorThe Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Board has reconferred the title of Visiting Professor in Engineering Science on PROFESSOR ROBERT ADAMS, B.SC D.SC Lond, PH.D Camb, for three years from 1 December 2008.
